St. George Mushroom

This is our St. George mushroom. An edible wild mushroom. A great spring mushroom.

The Pronkridder mushroom (St George) is cream-coloured with a fleshy cap and wavy edges. The cap (top) grows to 5 to 12cm. It has a firm bite and a cucumber-like smell.

Saint George gets its name from Saint George, as this mushroom grows around this name day (23 April). It usually grows in meadows in witches' circles, but also in thickets at the edge of the forest.
