The nashi is a particular kind of pear; juicy, watery, fresh and above all crunchier. The name apple pear refers to the shape and bite, not the taste. It just tastes like pear, with a hint of rose, pineapple and honey. There are several varieties/cultivars within this species. In Asia, this pear is valued so highly that it is often given away as a gift or eaten at special (family) occasions.
The nashi pear is delicious, just out of the fist or cold processed in dishes. Warm you can use it for example for jam, syrup or pie. Also nice: bake it in slices or grill it with black pudding or in a salad. Just like in kiwi, mango or pineapple, this pear contains an enzyme that makes meat tender, which is why it is also used in marinades.
