The aloe vera plant has traditionally been cultivated for the medicinal properties of the gel found in its leaves.
Place the 40–60 cm long fleshy leaf upright in a bowl for 10–15 minutes to allow the bitter yellow aloin to drain out. Then rinse the leaf with water. Remove the spines and scoop out the gel.
